Rutabaga Toy Library Policies

Grownup’s Responsibilities

Our space and toys appeal to ages zero through eight years, and we welcome all ages to use our gathering space. There are many benefits to mixed-age play so we ask that grownups supervise their big kids when playing near little ones to ensure safe play for all.

Socialization is an important part of play therefore we encourage grownups to supervise while children work out a challenge on their own before intervening.

More Than a Playspace

Almost all toys in our space are for members to borrow and we ask that all guests care for the toys they play with. Grownups are also asked to help children keep pieces together so that borrowers can find what they’re looking for.

Belongings Area

To better serve all of our guests during entry and exit, we ask that strollers and carseats be left in your car or in the stroller parking area outside when possible.

We are not responsible for loss, damage or theft of personal items while at Rutabaga. Unclaimed items left in our space are periodically donated.

Health is Priority

WASHING HANDS: Rutabaga Toy Library aspires to be a germ-free environment. All adults and children must wash hands before play. Sanitizer is also available, but soap and water is encouraged when possible. Re-wash as needed. You’ll find a handwashing station in the kitchenette as well as the bathroom.

SICK POLICY: We know that the struggle is real when you’re stuck at home with a sick child. But if you are home sick please do not visit. Standard procedure calls for a 24 hours fever-free period without the aid of medication once the fever breaks.

Shoe-Free Policy

In our goal to keep our space clean and safe, we require that all shoes be left outside of the play area. Socks are required for grown-ups but optional for children as bare feet help with grip. If needed, socks are available (free) at the front desk.

We are NOT Nut-Free

Rutabaga Toy Library is NOT a nut-free space. As always, we ask that all food and drink stay in the kitchenette only. Please wipe down your child’s snack area and wash hands before returning to play. You'll find spray and towels in the kitchenette.

Closures & Holidays

While we intend to keep a set schedule, sometimes we’ll need to make changes due to bad weather, unexpected circumstances, holidays, or special events. We’ll communicate any schedule changes as soon as we can to our clients via the website and email lists. Be sure to check our website to verify that we’re open before visiting. We’re a small family-run space and appreciate your understanding!

Can’t wait to PLAY!
