Rutabaga 2.0
Paid Community Leadership Roles for Spring–Summer Campaign
CONTEXT:
Rutabaga is getting ready for a big next adventure: moving into a new space in East Falls. This move will allow us to welcome more families, expand our programs, and continue building a space where community, creativity, and play come together. Like everything we do at Rutabaga, this next chapter will be powered by our village.
From May through July, we’re running a community-driven campaign to help bring this new space to life—through both fundraising and hands-on contributions. We’re looking for two part-time, paid leaders to help guide this work: one focused on fundraising, and one focused on mobilizing the incredible skills, talents, and energy within our community to physically transform the space.
Role 1: Fundraising Coordinator
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead execution of a community-driven fundraising campaign, including a central online campaign and a series of smaller “mini-pushes” throughout May–July
Help shape and implement creative fundraising strategies such as tiered giving, local business partnerships, and event-based efforts
Actively participate in fundraising: peer outreach, engaging current families, and modeling how others can get involved
Coordinate and support a small team of fundraising volunteers, helping turn community interest into action
Track progress, share updates, and help maintain campaign momentum
Collaborate with Rutabaga leadership to identify opportunities to expand reach and energy, including local partnerships, matching donors, and integrating fundraising into Rutabaga’s programs and events
Role 2: Community Volunteer Coordinator (Space Build + Creative Projects)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify, recruit, and connect with community members willing to share their skills (e.g., painting, building, gardening, cleaning, trades, creative work)
Match volunteers to specific needs and help identify individuals who can lead small teams or project areas
Plan and coordinate volunteer work days at the new space, creating clear, welcoming, and productive experiences
Oversee a range of hands-on projects such as painting walls and shelves, murals, simple builds (like a play loft or fence), garden planning and installation, and deep cleaning
Coordinate with skilled volunteers and professionals (e.g., electricians, plumbers, contractors, legal support) to ensure projects are completed safely and effectively
Lead by example: showing up, pitching in, and helping foster a sense of shared ownership and momentum
WHAT YOU’LL GET:
$1,000–$2,000 stipend, depending on time commitment and scope
A meaningful role in helping Rutabaga grow and serve more families
Hands-on leadership experience in a grassroots, community-led campaign
Recognition within the Rutabaga community
Rutabaga perks (to be shaped based on your interests)
TIME COMMITMENT:
Approximately 2–3 hours per week (flexible), May through July
HOW TO APPLY
Fill out this short form to share your interest and a bit about yourself. Not sure you check every box? That’s okay! These roles can flex to fit your strengths, whether that’s organizing, connecting people, storytelling, or bringing creative ideas to life.
