Counselor in Training @ Rutabaga’s Nature Arts Summer Camp

 

ROLE:

Looking to build your leadership skills, gain experience working with kids, and spend your summer outside having fun? Join Rutabaga Toy Library’s Nature Arts Summer Camp as a Counselor in Training (CIT)!

Our CIT program is designed for teens (ages 14+) who are excited to learn what it takes to work at camp. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and daily involvement, CITs will help our team create a playful, creative, and safe camp environment. It’s a great step for anyone curious about working with children or becoming a future camp counselor!


Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff with group transitions, activity setup, and general camper support

  • Jump into daily programming with enthusiasm, modeling kindness and curiosity

  • Help younger campers with routines like handwashing, lunch, and organizing belongings

  • Bring good energy, patience, and a willingness to learn every day


skills & qualifications:

  • Must be at least 14 years old by June 2025

  • Excited to work with kids and be outside every day

  • Responsible, positive, and eager to grow as a leader

  • Open to feedback and ready to be part of a team


position details:

  • Camp runs for 10 weeks, June 16–August 22

  • CITs must commit to at least 8 of the 10 weeks

  • Two daily shifts available: 8am–2pm or 12pm–6pm

  • This is an unpaid position that includes mentorship and guidance from experienced camp staff throughout the summer. CITs receive a stipend of $10/day to support transportation and meals

  • Mentorship provided throughout the summer from experienced staff

  • CITs will participate in a comprehensive training day that includes on-site preparations and CPR/First Aid certification. Background checks are required

  • Work Location: 3800 Vaux Street, Philadelphia, PA 19129 (Summer Camp base)

How to Apply:

To begin the hiring process, please fill out the CIT Application Form with care and consideration. Speak with your grownup to confirm all details provided. 

  1. If selected for consideration, we will reach out within 2-3 days to schedule a video call interview. 

  2. The next step will be an in-person meeting with your grownup present.

  3. Final decisions will be made by May 30.
