Do I have to come to Rutabaga to pick out and Pick Up toys?

Nope! We offer drop in browsing and curbside pickup at our shop in East Falls, and online reservations, delivery (in certain zip codes) and pickup at our partner organizations. Learn more HERE.

I’d love to join Rutabaga, but we just can’t afford it right now. Do you have options?

We are proud to now offer a scholarship fund for families in the Philadelphia area to join Rutabaga. This fund is designed to reduce barriers and allow even more families to choose a more eco-conscious approach to toys. Requesting a scholarship is a judgment free space. What if my child doesn’t want to give a toy back?

We have found that this actually doesn’t happen very often. However, if your child is particularly attached to a toy, let us know and we’ll discuss whether it is a toy we are able to sell.

What if we break or lose a toy?

We understand it happens! Here is our policy as outlined in our member agreement.

• If a piece has been misplaced, you may return the toy and continue to look around for the missing piece.
• If a toy part is damaged or lost but Rutabaga Toy Library determines that the use will not be adversely affected, a small charge of $1 will be assigned.
• If the misplaced piece cannot be timely located or if the broken toy not able to be repaired, the member will be asked to replace the toy with a preferably pre-owned toy is in the same category and price range. If this is not possible, the member will be assigned a loss fee equal to the cost of replacing the toy.

How do I know the toys are clean?

Can you give me some examples of toys my child could find?

You bet!

• Under 1: Books, Mini piano, musical play instruments, push toys, slides, blocks, and more!
• Toddler: Books, Wide variety of puzzles, vehicles, ride on toys, play shopping carts, slides, and more!
• Preschool: Books, Doll houses, balance bikes, puzzles, balance boards, ride on toys, and more!
• Elementary: Books (including Bob Books), puzzles, balls, play tents, board & card games, art supplies, and more!
